Clean, Safe Water Project

Amount Needed:
$1,500

The Ntungamo District is one of the areas where RSHMU operates and it now has access to clean water. Unfortunately, where there are no clean water sources, the water-logged swamps and other similar areas contain seriously unclean water with diseases and microbes. Without clean, potable water sources the swamp water has to be used by people and domestic animals, especially the cattle. Until a sufficient number of good wells are dug and provided, people must use this swamp water for drinking and they do so by filtering the water cloths and then adding chlorine, but too often there is not enough chlorine and so people become infected by all sorts of water-borne diseases, putting their lives at serious health risks and even death. Ntungamo is where our orphan’s kindergarten is located so we desperately need safe containers that can be used to store the necessary amounts of safe, clean water (treated with chlorine, to provide potable water) for the daily needs of our people. Even the chlorine itself that is necessary to purify the filtered swamp water and maintain the clean water in the tanks is extremely hard to purchase.

The community surrounding our kindergarten and the school itself needs the chlorine costing 2,400,000ugx ($774.19) every 3 months. Our kindergarten also has an immediately need of a larger silver tank to store the potable drinking water at a cost of 2,530,000ugx ($ 816.12)
